Reveal

Designing a Visual Identity Fit for a Sustainability Movement

Project Included: Design Strategy, Packaging Design, Art Direction, Illustration Design

The Brief

Reveal are a women-owned independent beverage company based in Philadelphia, USA. These ladies recognised both the physical and more importantly the nutritional waste that occurs in the processing and manufacturing of convenience foods and approached Billion to help them realise their goals of bringing food waste out of the dark and into a bottle. The aim was to bring their sustainable beverage brand to the market, and to use it to open consumer eyes up to things that would usually be discarded. Their launch product was to be a delicious brew made out of avocado seeds, which are super high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and of which 15 million pounds are thrown out each week.

The Challenge

The big challenge for Reveal was to find a way to communicate the benefits of avocado seeds, while convincing consumers that they make an amazing and refreshing beverage. Billion recognised that the brand needed to be friendly, appetising and honest and to reflect the wholesome and proactive ideals of its makers.

The Solution

Our solution to create an identity for Reveal that felt like a movement, not just a brand.  We took influence from the visual language of protest art with its punchy and determined style and used bold hand drawn typography on playful and fun language that shouts from the front of the packaging. This hand-made poster quality is continued with custom ingredient illustrations and quirky icons that we created in-house, each using bright and high energy colours that contrast the natural brew colour of the liquid. This was another important motif – we wanted to ensure the entire bottle felt positive and optimistic to reflect the solution-based mission of the brand it represents. Reveal is a future-thinking product that you just can’t ignore.
